“I have always felt panicked in small confined spaces,
however my claustrophobia did not limit my life until I started having
panic attacks on the underground, just over two years ago. My entire journey
would be spent worrying that the train would stop in the tunnel- and if
that happened, I would experience sweaty palms, dry mouth, blurred vision
and feel my heart beating really fast. I would gasp for breath feeling
I was suffocating and couldn’t cope.These attacks became so regular I stopped using the
underground and for a whole year travelled London only by bus. By this
point my attacks had spread to travel by overground train, the last straw
was when I had a panic attack on a plane flight to Italy. I had never
been scared of flying but after being stuck on a stifling hot plane on
a runway for an hour I likened the whole experience to being struck on
a train and knew I had 2 1/2 hours of flight before I could get off. I
had to takes tranquillisers on the return journey and once back in London,
felt like a prisoner unable to use trains or planes, because of an utterly
irrational, unexplainable fear.In my first session with Phil I really didn’t think
I’d been hypnotised and was somewhat sceptical that what he had done would
work, however I was able to travel home on the overground. After session
2 I was able to travel on the underground ground and have since made several
short flights, whilst I don’t enjoy travel on the tube, and still feel
apprehensive when it stops in a tunnel I am now doing what I had allowed
myself to feel impossible.
Phil has helped me regain my old sense of self and
working through this fear has given me confidence in other areas of my
life too.”
